Sun Xiaowei received his PhD degree from Sichuan University in 2012 (joint training unit: Key Laboratory of Shock Wave Physics and Blast Physics, Institute of Fluid Physics, Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics); he was a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Institution of Science, Washington, USA from 2015 to 2016. He was awarded the "Gansu Province Outstanding Youth Science Fund", "Gansu Province General Higher Education Institution Young Teacher Achievement Award" ,"Long Yuan Young Innovative Talent Support Program"and "Key Talents Project of Gansu Province".At the same time, he is a member of the Review Committee of the Ministry of Education's Degree Center, the Review Committee of the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, the Review Committee of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Editorial Committee of the international open source journal Insight - Material Science and the Gansu Journal of Higher Education.
He has served as the director of the physics laboratory, the head of the physics department, the assistant dean and the vice dean of the School of Mathematics and Science of Lanzhou Jiaotong University, and is currently the dean of the School of Mathematics and Science of Lanzhou Jiaotong University, the head of the national first class undergraduate major construction point of applied physics, the director of the provincial experimental teaching demonstration centre of physics, and also the head of the provincial key discipline of physics at Lanzhou Jiaotong University, the innovation and entrepreneurship base of vibration and noise reduction for rail transportation at Lanzhou Jiaotong University, the research team of high pressure properties of functional new materials at the Institute of High Pressure Properties of Functional New Materials at Lanzhou Jiaotong University, and the research team of low frequency vibration and noise reduction technology for rail transportation.He has long been engaged in scientific research in the interdisciplinary disciplines of condensed matter physics, materials physics and chemistry, rail transportation equipment materials and applied engineering, and his research areas involve materials high pressure physical properties and phase changes, noise vibration and control, and acousto-optical information science and technology.
Sun Xiaowei was appointed as a master's degree supervisor in acoustics at Lanzhou Jiaotong University in 2011, and has pioneered two new research directions in vibration and noise control of rail transportation and acoustic superstructure materials and their physical effects, and has made new progress in the research of low frequency broadband characteristics and band gap regulation of phonon crystals, low frequency vibration and noise reduction of rail transportation based on acoustic superstructure materials and their applications;In 2017, he was appointed as the PhD supervisor of the discipline of materials and application engineering of rail transportation equipment in Lanzhou Jiaotong University; in 2019, he was appointed as the special professor of "Flying Scholar" of Gansu Province in the discipline of mechanical engineering in Lanzhou Jiaotong University. He has published more than 150 scientific papers in Phys. Rev. B, Phys. Rev. E, Sci. Rep., J. Appl. Phys., J. Alloys Compd., Mater. Chem. Phys., Solid State Commun. He has published more than 150 scientific papers in core journals at interior and abroad, including more than 130 in SCI and EI, and his scientific results have been cited by international authoritative journals such as Science, J. Am. Chem. Lett. and others, with more than 1100 citations.He was granted three utility model patents and presided over the completion of more than 20 projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, key projects of the Natural Science Foundation of Gansu Province, key talent projects of Gansu Province, and industrial support projects of the Gansu Provincial Education Department, etc. He also presided over the completion of scientific research achievements that won the second prize of the Army Science and Technology Progress in 2010, the first prize of Gansu Provincial University Science and Technology Progress in 2012 and 2014, and the prize of Gansu Provincial Higher Education Scientific Research Excellence in 2016 and 2017.In 2022, he was awarded the title of "Excellent Science and Technology Worker of Lanzhou".
